This is an easy little trick that is mostly used as a finisher for a routine or something like that. The only difficult part about it is the beginning. DO THIS TRICK OUTSIDE OR IN A GYMNASIUM!
Yo-Yo I used: Yomega Xodus II (Anything that sleeps for a while is just fine though)
Yomega Xodus II: This is a very heavy yo-yo; so much so, it hurts to use this yo-yo for anything other than its intended purpose (off-string tricks...I'll get to those much much later). It is a butterfly shaped yo-yo and the edges have rubber pads on them (common for off-string yo-yos). It's also a ball bearing yo-yo, and has good sleep times.
The Sky Rocket requires a lot of space above you and there are a few variations, but it's all in the catch.
Throw a hard sleeper. Remove the slip knot from your finger; hold string. Give the yo-yo a tug to get it to wind. When the yo-yo reaches your hand, don't catch it. Instead, throw the still winding yo-yo above your head. Catch yo-yo.
The variants I know of are:
Catch it behind your back -- Self explainitory Rocket to Pocket -- Catch it in an open pocket on your person
It's usually not considered a Sky Rocket if it doesn't go over your head.
Next up: Mounting -- Set up for your bigger tricks!
