"I can manipulate forged ore"
Sitting quietly in a dark garden the young lady yawned lightly as it was a lazy day, like so many others. Those with stature and money usually were lazy in one form or another, money just did that as there was really no reason to work. At least that was the female’s aspect of it, she had no idea what her father did all day. As it was she had her own garden that her parents wondered how she could get roses so dark, what were those weird bulb looking flowers….and what was creeping across the ground as if it was an assassin in the night waiting to take out the family. But, she seemed happy so they didn’t say anything, yet, they weren’t going out there for anything that’s for sure. She looked out at the busy street full of females giggling over the guys and the guys trying not to pay attention to the females, trying to look debonair but masculine. It was her favorite thing to watch as it made her chuckle. She didn’t have friends, so this is how she entertained herself.

Then she spotted him. He was fairly tall, trimmed, broad shouldered with a handsome face. He was older as he had white hair but had still a spring to his step so it slightly threw it off. He was charming, regal, poised, well put together, …thief? She couldn’t believe her eyes, he was charming the biggest snob in town and when he went to kiss the back of her hand, he slipped her very expensive bracelet off her hand. And she didn’t even realize it! Even after he was gone! “Has to be magick…” She stood and went to the fence but saw he did this to numerous women. Her thought on the male went down as he was nothing but a common thief with a trick. She watched as he walked back to his friends with a chuckle as he held out the bracelets the pocketed them.

“Look at the bounty I got this time…There is no girl I cannot snatch from.” The male had a right to be a bit arrogant. He was a master thief, but it didn’t start out that way. He was just an orphan on the streets that nearly lost his hands several time. So being cleaver he watched the passing men and how they charmed the ladies. He watched and learned. Growing up he learned how to perfect the game of charm and chance. Along the way he got friends that he helped to get on their feet as he remembered what it was like to be at the bottom of the food chain.

Putting his stash away he heard of a girl who was a loner, but had the best jewelry and was the most stunning creature they ever saw. However, she had a dark and creepy way about her. It perked his curiosity at ‘the best jewelry’ part. “I bet I can get her jewelry.” He sparkled with confidence. “That’s the thing, she rarely comes out and usually is a bit stand offish. I think she’s just painfully shy as when I go to approach her to help her across the street, so no carriage mows her over, she shied away from me and goes back the way she came. But she never has a ‘I’m better then you’ look on her face…just scared or something.” The guy shrugged. The confident one took this into consideration but his mind was made up. He was going to hit this dark beauty they talked of.

One day he got his chance but almost missed it. She was stunning, a beauty only legends were whispered of is what she was. Her hair was perfectly up and back showing off her long slender neck and delicate shoulders that were of such a deep olive tan that he’s never seen before. Her waist was so small yet her chest was very generous as well as her hips. She may have a large dress on but he’s been on the streets long enough to know what that would look like. He could only imagine what her legs were like as her arms were long and lean while her hands and fingers were long and graceful. He choked. She walked by him and all he could do was stare at her. “Nice going buddy” one of them gently elbowed him. “No guys…you don’t understand, I’ve never seen anything like that. She’s…” “A dark beauty, we know, we did that too.” Shaking his head the thief followed her. He wasn’t backing down.

Eventually he caught up with her “Excuse me miss?” she stop and turned, he wasn’t ready for her eyes, as the deep purple but with stormy looking clouds in them peered back at him, he froze for a moment. “Uh…I’m sorry I just wanted to get to know such a beauty. I know almost every girl in this city and none of them has stunned me as your radiant and enchanting beauty has.” The girl knew what he was going to do, but almost forgot due to his charm. He was quite good, but she kept her head about herself. “I thank the sir.” But such a smile spread on her face it almost sent a chill down his spine. “But your charms and wit will not work on me common thief, I know your game and will not fall pray to your web of lies and deceit. I do not like that nor you. Good day.” She turned and walked away from a stunned man who couldn’t believe his ears. He could not charm her. He loved it. Finally there was a girl with enough fire that he couldn’t steal her every belonging but he didn’t have to fear her trying to slip into his bed at night. He had to know this one on a more personal level.
Things were not fun for young male, she had eluded him, got him arrested, and toyed with him. He was so frustrated, but loved every moment of it. He was a twisted soul. One day he saw her carriage leave and followed her deep into the woods but was a bit confused why she stopped in the oddest of places. Hiding he watched her get out and what seemed to be to be dark mist or something clung to her. It was simply a foreign dress but how it was, he’s never seen anything like it. Waving her carriage away he watched her walk into the woods enjoying nature. What on Earth was this weird enchantress doing? He didn’t even really like girls and he had to know more about her…know her.

When they finally came to a small clearing everything was green and beautiful, but there was a well, a random well waiting quietly and patiently in the woods. Drawing some water she drank then took some to an injured deer and let it drink. Putting the gourde back she finally settled down by the deer. It’s injury wasn’t life threatening at all, just a hindrance. His eyes grew as he saw her put her graceful hand on it’s forehead and a soft black glow happened, then it was gone…dead. She knew magick like he did although hers were more…deadly in one go. Then he remembered her smile and shuddered lightly but stopped as he saw instead of her being happy or indifferent on the animal’s death, she was crying over the body. ‘Even death had a heart?’ he thought. He couldn’t believe what he was watching. No wonder she was a loner, who would want to be friends with one that brought death?

But his head snapped to the left as three large strong males walked in laughing. “Well well well what do we have here?” He watched as she feared them. She just brought death to the animal but she feared man? Why didn’t she just bring death to them too? He was confused but he couldn’t let the beauty get…tainted?…by the males that were closing in on her. Jumping out he smiled “How bout you leave my lady alone.” They stopped and looked at him “And who are you?” “Her personal bodyguard and loyal servant.” Without missing a beat. They laughed but were cut short as he took out an earring, a small knife looking thing on a long chain “Shall I take the other off m’lady?” The girl blinked stunned “Yes…” Not knowing what to expect as she watched him pull the other out “As you wish m’lady.”

He flicked his wrists and what was an earring turned into a long slender, but very sturdy, chain with a long dagger at the end of them. The female was stunned, he did magick like she did. The males stopped, they never seen anything like it. Pulling their own swords they watched as the young man turned quickly and used the chains to whip the daggers around with deadly speed and force, it was like a dance of death as he knew how to move and snap his body in ways to make him nearly invincible. His white hair flew around about as much as his weapons, making it almost hypnotic for the one being attacked. It was no gift, just a seeming accidental defense tactic that worked. Yet the daggers never came close to the female nor the dead dear that she was seeming to protect from the men.

Two of the men fell quickly as the third ran. “Oh no you don’t.” A chillingly dangerous voice rang out from the man as he hooked the butt of one to the dagger to the other. Twisting and twirling he got enough momentum to shoot the dagger straight out like an arrow, making it through the man’s body and embedding the dagger, tipped with the man’s still beating heart, into the tree that was in front of him. Smiling the man made the weapon’s ‘disappear’. They didn’t, they were just back to earrings that he was trying to untangle so he could put them back in. Just as he was about to shout out a cuss word small fingers wrapped around them and gently pried them apart. “Sometimes to pull them apart you must push something together tighter.” She released his earrings and stepped back.

“Do not think for one second I like you now because you saved me. I am truly grateful and appreciative but I still know what you do to those girls.” He just smiled “I wouldn’t figure that this would make us instant friends, but just more understanding of the other. I saw what you did to that deer…what is your gift?” She sighed and looked at the deer “I decided whether something should die or not. Well not really decide. When something is injured there is a fork in the road of life. Either life or death.” he was slowly understanding. She either could stop death or help it along. “I see, so those guys, if they weren’t injured….” “….I could do nothing.” He nodded, people’s fear of her were misplaced. She was simply a girl with a curse, like he was simply a guy with a curse. “And you?” She looked at him. “I can manipulate any forged ore. All the little ‘daggers’ or weapon looking trinkets on me were actually weapons that I made into trinkets so it would be easier to carry them.” “I see…sounds like a good gift to have.”

She did nod as she walked away from the deer to the well. Taking a drink she nearly choked as he asked “So what is this well? The water of magick?” She nearly choked as she tried to stifled a laugh “No simply a spring that we put a well so it wouldn’t be such dirty water. That’s all.” They stayed out in the woods for the day talking. Learning about each other. They were not instant friends as there were a few arguments, a couple threats and a lot of sharp words from both end. But eventually the went their own ways with a respect for each other not realizing how deep of a bond they would have in the near future.
