((Just read it...))
Hero stopped by Valentines house to pick up his little sister. She rushed out the door before her mother could give her, her coat for the park.
"Ugh, what am I to do with you child!" Her mother said before greeting Hero at the door. "Here you go. She'll listen to you." Val's mother said before shaking her head displeased.
Hero chuckled and nodded. "Don't worry, she'll be fine without it until later this afternoon." Hero took the little girls hand smiled. "Where to Princess?" He asked kindly to the 7 year old.
"The swings!" She said cheerfully. Charity was full of spirit and energy. Her long straight brown hair flowed down over her shoulder but brushed along her face as the wind passed on by the two walking side by side.
It wasn't long before Hero brought Charity to the park where she met up with a few other kids. She wasn't the social kind but her friends were kids she didn't want to leave out from her life.
Hero watched from a distance, never taking his watchful eye off Charity. The wind picked up its pace from before and occupied the area around him. Hero was lost in thought but his eyes never stopped starring at Chairty's playful smile. She reminded him of Val's smile but it was hard to remember after so long, but it feels like just yesterday he was teasing him in the school yard.
Things have changed now and Hero was not that teenager he was long ago. He moved onto a college in the town. The young man knew though that he could have gone to any university of his choice in the city but he couldn't leave the town again...not after what happened.
Soon Hero was snapped out of his thoughts when Charity giggled as she poked him in the stomach. "Hero, come ooon! Stop starring at mee!" Charity said letting another stream of giggles flow from her little lips.
"Ha ha, well sorry miss Charity, but I couldn't help but be in a trance. You're so powerful that you hypnotize the most powerful of knights." Hero said playfully as he picked her up in his arms, lifting himself from the seat. "Ready to head off princess?" Hero asked Charity as he began to head away from the kids and to the swings where there was more privacy.
Charity didn't have to say a word.
Hero placed the little girl on the swing and pushed her lightly at first until she gave the word to go higher. Strange enough she wasn't as playful on the swings as she was usually.
The trees rustled in the wind and the children's laughter began to die off. Hero was no longer pushing Charity, only letting her control the speed herself as he stood and watched the sky.
* * *
Charity sat at the foot of the angel statue over her brothers grave. Hero was down on one knee with an arm resting on it. He read Val's name a thousand times over and never got tired of seeing it.
The sun was setting and the blood red sky began to fade. Charity looked at Hero as he stood up to put her down on the ground. "Ready to go?" He asked her.
Charity looked at Val's tomb stone and kissed it placing a candy from inside her coat on his grave. "Yep, he wanted something sweet, so I gave him candy! See?" She said picking it up and showing Hero. Hero just smiled and nodded. "He'll be happy to have candy for a change."
Charity ran her fingers over the letters as Hero took her other hand, pulling her gently along so they could get back in time before her mother got worried.
Upon arrival of the house Hero met up with Charity's mother. They spoke a little before Charity spoke up about being cold and tired. Her mother picked her up and thanked Hero for taking her to the park. Of course she knew nothing of Charity and him visiting Valentines grave on occasion.
Charity waved at hero and winked at him before resting her head on her mothers shoudler. Hero waved back and smiled before heading towards Valentines grave.
He arrived an hour later at the site. It was dark and he listened to the harmony of the crickets and the night air around him. The trees never stopped rustling, even for a moment of silence that Hero brought to the graveyard.
The angel watched down upon Hero as he knelt down to pick up the candy, unwrapping it as he rose to his feet. Inside was a strawberry heart shaped hard candy. They were Charity's favorite. Hero looked at the angel and placed the candy in her hand before smiling and putting his own hands into his pocket for warmth. "My Valentine..." Hero began to say before feeling empty inside. He fell to his knees and grabbed the stone rim just above Valentines name. A few tears slipped but hero kept his eyes open.
"I'm sorry I didn't protect you! I'm sorry I left! I wish you never followed, I wish...I wish you never left! It's not fair!!" He said aloud as he cried his heart out. Hero felt sick to his stomach. After so many years he still felt this pain but in the end something always came over him and he returns back to his regular self. It was odd but...he needed it or he could spend days crying. However it was at Val's grave that this feeling comforted him...as though Val himself was holding Hero in his arms and telling him...everything is and will be alright.
((End))
Sorry for the messy ending but I needed something to keep you hanging for no reason XD
