Chapter one
Beyond Her Heart

Steam filled the air as the Leone, a scouting ship, continued on it’s way. The low hum of the engine could be heard in the dead silence of the sky. The silver ship was a boxed, yet fluent design with cannons on both sides. Near these guns were the giant doors of the hangars, where several craft can access the ship‘s hangar. The ship exited the clouds, miles laid out in front the ship. The endless sky above Grandray seemed peaceful. No grey clouds, no smoke, no war. Nothing disturbing the thin, but proud, shred of peace.

Inside the ship, the rigid captain looked around. His tan skin and short cut black hair contrasted in his white uniform. This man was a veteran of wars come to past, the medals on his chest were testament of that. His dark brown eyes scanned the ever constant horizon. “Any word from the foreword naves?” The captain asked his lieutenant in a deep and powerful voice. The lieutenant, a tall, lean, slim man, had glanced at the tiny dots in the clouds.

The dots were naves, or fighter planes. The naves of Grandray were fast, silver colored. Each armed with two 30 mm guns that could tear up any nave in the sky. These were a symbol of Grandray’s military might, as was the color silver.

“Naves, report!” ‘The lieutenant ordered into a small microphone. Silence came back, then followed by voices of the nave pilots.

“Nave 01, nothing.” A firm voice reported.

“Nave 03, nothing.” A soft, but affirming woman’s voice reported

“Nave 02, nothing….wait.” A man with an foreign accent comment, as his nave approached a large, omnipotent cloud. In the rules of the skies, clouds could be your worse enemy. “I think there’s…”

Static interrupted his words. The lieutenant tried again, but he knew what silent static meant. “Nave 02 report!” Still nothing. “Nave 03, what the hell is going on out there?”

“It’s a ship sir, a large ship.” The woman pilot answered, sounding worried

The captain lowered his jaw. The large cloud opened up in front of his eyes. A colossal, coal colored ship hovered in place. The large chase cannon pointed straight, above the flight path of the Leone.

The lieutenant eased his grip on the silver plated microphone. His head quickly drifted back to the captain. “Sir, what is that?”

“Dessdrum.” The captain muttered in disgust. The entire crew on the bridge looked back at the captain, the word was taboo in the skies. Dessdrum was a small, but industrious country. Diplomatic relations were strained as they were, tensions between the two powerful nations were already building up.

“What are they doing sir?” The lieutenant asked worriedly; He spoke for the entire crew.

“Changing the world” the captain replied in awe.

The large chase gun on the black ship slowly lowered, pointing straight at the Leone. The large gun could easily destroy the Leone in a single shot. The bridge was quiet, everyone turned to look at the captain, awaiting his order. Before he could say anything, steam exited the Dessdrum ship’s gun, preparing to fire.

“Evasive maneuvers!” The captain shouted. Another release of steam out of the gun.

The Leone tried to lower itself into the sea of clouds below, but time was out. The black cannon fire. The intense discharge of the cannon was deafening, as the flash was blinding. The cannon round easily cut through the armor of the Leone. The piercing, screeching sound of the round scrapping with metal was unbearable. The round exited the bottom of the Leone. The shot diagonally passed through the ship, leaving a grave, mortal wound. The round was so powerful that the clouds opened up where the round had passed by.

Steam leaked out of the black cannon as it rose back up, almost as if nothing happened. The Leone slowly sank into the clouds, disappearing from the sight of the Dessdrum dreadnaught. The hum of the Leone had cut off. A muffled bang of an explosion echoed in the sky. The clouds erupted upward in a spike, with a white cloud halo forming on the middle.

This was the start of something much greater than either side could’ve imagined. The gears of the Dessdrum war machine had starting turning along side the hands of fate. The captain had seen the future, the world was about to change, whether or not it wanted to.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Are you serious old man?”

“Yes I am, you’ll do it now”

The two men looked each other in the eyes. One old man, and one lazy boy. The boy was Dominic Azori. Young, talented in flying, lazy, these words sum him up. His black hair had a unique tint of blue in it, which seemed to run in the family. The old man was his grandfather, Alton Azori. His black hair had turned white over the years, but the now faint tint of blue could still be seen.

The two were part of a small, successful courier business, named the Azori Courier Service. Over the years they have earned the reputation of being insane, doing dangerous missions for low prices. This was how they were successful, they were fearless, to a degree.

“This is royal decree! Like hell we’re going to do this!” Alton became gung-ho. This had puzzled Dominic for several years now. Youth are supposed to be full of life, this was not the case. Dominic did everything with the least amount of effort, but managed to complete it. People have noted that his deep, green, lazy eyes never fully open up, saying that it would be a waste of energy for Dominic.

Alton himself was retired. He had served in the last great war as captain of the 22nd G.A.F Recon force. He still kept his captains cap, which was placed on his desk. Now, he handled the paper work and money of the business. Every now and then. He’ll be reminded of his days in the Grandray Air Force.

“All you have to do is pick up this noble, and deliver her to the capital. It’s that simple.” Alton explained the mission to his grandson.

“I just have a bad feeling about this.”

“Ha! Back in my G.A.F days I…”

“Ok ok! I’ll do it.” Dominic gave in, not wanting to hear his grandfather’s incoherent rambling about his glory days. “I’ll be gone for a few days then. I’ll take 500 ceros.” Dominic glanced down at the desk, looking for a little sack of money.

“Just think Dominic, if we complete this, I can retire finally.” Alton sighed, stroking his hair with his hand.

“Yeah just think, we could buy you some hair.” Dominic was quick with the jokes, which often buried him deeper into trouble. This infuriated Alton; He had always been sensitive about his hair, which Dominic was quick to attack.

A second later, Dominic had found the bag of cero he was looking for, on his face. Alton threw it at him, angry at the hair joke. Dominic quickly caught the money before it fell on the wood floor.
