Chapter one
Beyond Her Heart

Her arms fall gently on my shoulders. Her blood red hair smoothly flows down her back. I do not know who this girl is, but her touch is sensitive and warm. My eyes are glued to her, they feel like they‘re at the right place. I enjoy this feeling, this feeling of the home I never saw.

She slowly lifts her head. Her left eye is covered in a bright, white bandage. The right eye is a dull grey, something I‘ve never seen before. Has she been hurt? Does she still have that eye? As I question what is happening she barely opens her mouth to speak.

I cannot hear the words that leave her mouth, they are as silent as the world around me. Her only visible eye looks sad, listless. It’s like she’s looking through me. Is she interested in me? If she wasn’t, why is her arms around me?

The previously dark area around my feet open up in a spiral of light. I see that the white clouds encase me, as the clear ocean below me holds me up. I look below to see the bottom ocean ridges and cliffs, their beauty stuns me. Where am I? This question repeats in my mind as I look up to the girl. Her eye is still piercing, I feel eyes feel obscenely heavy, my eyes cannot rest on hers.

I find myself falling through the thin level of water I was standing on. My head lifts slowly to see the girl is looking down, the clouds stay still behind her head. She forms a devious smile, does she enjoy this surreal moment?

I’m not given time to think, she is already out of my sight. The water that I fall into is frigid, I feel lonely as I sink deeper into it’s endless depths. I close my eyes, hoping to free my self from this moment’s grip.

I come to with a thud. I lay facedown on the hard wood floor, just the way I always like to wake up. “Lazy boy, get up!” a familiar voice bellows behind me. I groggily turn around and sigh to see it’s my grandfather, my boss. “We received a special job, get dressed.”

Blah. I really shouldn’t be surprised of this rude awakening, seeing how I’m a courier. When I stop and ponder why I work, my love for the sky is the only thing keeping me working. To feel the rush of wind pass by you, or to fly around at high speeds is enjoyable, and surprisingly relaxing. The nave I fly soars so smooth in the air that I feel as natural as the cloud and birds are to the sky.

My grandfather knows how I feel, he too was a nave pilot in the G.N.F. He fought in the last great war. I was born on the day of the armistice which was considered a miracle, as people were unsure of the end.
