“Well,” Kane started, “I didn’t think you had that already.”
“What?”
“The silver clasp.”
I stared at him in an odd silence.
He sighed, “I didn’t think I’d be going over this already.” Kane moved closer to the remains of the statue he smashed. “Wake Aqua up and I’ll explain.”
“And, why do we have to wake her up,” Chris said as his eye twitched.
“Seriously,” Eric sprang up from his chair. “I think we all need a break from her!”
Terra instantly caught Eric’s shoulder and forced him to sit down, as Ruby violently glared at Chris who was completely oblivious to her.
“Then do you want to tell her what she missed,” Kane replied smoothly, “because I’m not repeating myself.”
Eric and Chris’ faces went to instant shock as they cried out, “WAKE HER UP!!!”
I was blown back by their cry. It’s amazing that didn’t wake her up! “Okay! Okay,” I rubbed my ears as I got up from the chair, kneeled down, and propped Aqua up in my arms. I put my hand to her head, “Hey, Aqua. It’s time to wake up.” There was no response. “Hmm… This could be a little harder than I- wait a sec.” I leaned in as close as I could to her ear and whispered, “Hey, Aqua. Are you ready for the… final?”
“FINAL,” she burst from her sleep as she knocked me down to the wood floor, “WHAT FINAL!? I’VE HAD NO TIME TO PREPARE!!! AND, AND, AND… oh.” She suddenly realized where she was. “Hey, what are you wearing? And, where is your book?”
She’s worried about my book and not my hand? I really have to question my friends’ interests.
“WOULD YOU TWO GET BACK TO YOUR SEATS,” Kane bellowed, as we silently walked back to our seats.
“By the way,” Aqua directed at me.
“Yeah.”
“How’s your hand?
“…” Now she’s worried?
Everyone started laughing, but it instantly died at the loud tap of Kane’s foot on the wood floor. “Done,” he asked coldly as we fell silent. “Don’t even think about it,” he raised his finger as Eric opened his mouth. “In addition to the six gems, there are also six clasps. When the gem is held in its proper clasp, armor can be produced when it makes contact with the corresponding book.”
“You’re expecting us to believe that some stupid piece of metal makes something as dumb as what he’s wearing,” Chris said sarcastically.
“Chris,” Terra started. “We fell into the ground and out of the sky; Alexander got attacked by a random giant lizard, the sun hasn’t moved since we got here, and Aqua got a change wardrobe when she walked through, well, nothing. So, how can you not believe that?”
Ruby, Eric, and I nodded in agreement. It was hard to argue with Terra when she started speaking. She had a tendency to skip to her point almost instantly.
“Whatever,” Chris rolled his eyes as he got up from his chair.
“What are you doing,” Ruby instantly reacted.
“Testing for durability,” Chris answered.
Durability? I looked at Kane who showed faint signs of a smile under his mask. Then I felt the grip of a hand on my shoulder. “Not good,” I instantly muttered. ‘Durability’ just made sense, and I’m in no position to save myself right now. Chris threw me up from the chair with his left and, the next second, I got a close-up of his right fist.
“Ahhh,” Chris groaned, as I hit the floor. “Damn that’s hard!”
Ruby ran over from her chair and slapped Chris over the head, “Of course it’s hard!”
Then Eric stood over me gawking, “Did that hurt?”
“No,” I answered from the ground. “Not at all.”
Terra walked into view from my perspective on the floor, “Here.” She helped me up.
“Did I forget to mention how hard the armor can be,” Kane smirked.
Chris glared at him for a few seconds.
“Alright,” Kane called out. “Terra. Catch Aqua up with what happened.”
Terra merely nodded as she went back to the table and picked up her book. “Watch carefully,” she said as she touched her gem to the cover. The book glowed softly and burst into spheres of light that plunged into Terra. Then she stood there with a confused expression on her face. “Huh? I’m not babbling.”
“Of course not,” Kane answered. “Alexander is the only one who will babble, because he didn’t read aloud from the book.”
“In other words,” Eric butted in, “Alexander is ‘SPECIAL!’”
“Yeah,” Ruby joined in, “really ‘special.’”
Terra and Aqua started to giggle rapidly, as Chris shook off the pain in his right hand and head.
“Not again,” I moaned. “You guys are always pulling this on me!”
“Sorry,” Aqua apologized still giggling.
“No you’re not,” I replied.
Her giggling instantly stopped. “Of course I’m not,” she yelled out as she fell over laughing with everyone else.
“It’s not that funny,” I grumbled as Chris joined in the laughter.
