“SIT DOWN,” Kane bellowed, as we went back to our seats. Everyone was still giggling. “Aqua.”
“Yes,” she giggled.
“Your turn.”
“You mean I can’t read it!”
“We don’t have time.”
“But-“
“No buts or I’ll kick yours.”
She frowned furiously as she took her sapphire and pressed it to the cover. More lights burst into the air and struck her. “Hm,” her expression changed from fury to confusion. “That’s an interesting sensation.”
“If only studying was this easy,” Chris muttered, as we nodded in concurrence.
“Hey! Terra. Alexander,” Aqua smiled.
“Yeah,” we both replied.
“Can either of you do something like this!” She pointed upward, and little black clouds instantly formed over Terra and me. Then she snapped her fingers, and rain came pouring down and completely drenched us as the clouds vanished. Everyone burst out laughing at us.
“God… That’s… Great,” Eric managed to gasp. “Where can I get,” he stopped to laugh a little more, “mine?”
Terra’s hair was completely over her face as she pulled back her long yellow hair back and wiped the water from her face. “I may not be able to do that,” she started quietly, “but I can do this.” She reached out and touched the chair Aqua was sitting in, and it immediately grew limbs that wrapped around Aqua, binding her to the chair.
“HEY,” Aqua yelled. “That’s not funny!”
“Of course it’s not,” Terra said calmly, “but you brought this on yourself.” Terra snapped her fingers, and the limbs burst into bloom before our eyes in bright vivid pink flowers.
“PINK! I HATE PINK,” Aqua screamed. “IT’S WORSE THAN THIS STUPID SKIRT!”
“Really,” Terra asked. “You look pretty good to me.”
Then the rest of us busted out laughing as hard as ever. Eric was rolling on the ground, Chris fell out of his chair, Ruby’s head was in her arms trying to muffle her laugh, Terra merely grinned, and I had my head thrown back against my chair. I was soaking wet, but who cares?
“Terra,” Ruby managed to utter. “You deserve an applause.” She burst back into laughter with us and gave up trying to hide it.
“Okay,” Chris calmed down as he pulled himself up from the floor, “now, where can I get my book?”
“Heck,” Ruby followed, “mine too.”
Kane had his arms crossed and was tapping his left foot while giving us a look similar to a fed up teacher from one of our classes. “Done yet,” he asked as our smiles faded. After three long loud taps on the wood floor from his foot, Kane continued, “The other books are at the other library.”
“Other library,” Aqua yelled from the chair she was still bound in. “Where is it? Is the librarian on duty over there?” She jumped in the chair.
Kane ignored her as he dug into his pouch again and pulled out a small coin the size of a quarter. “Watch carefully,” he said as he waved his hand and a shadow moved along the floor and closed the door. “Don’t even,” Kane pointed at Eric who didn’t even have a chance to even open his mouth. “This is a flip-side coin,” he showed one side polished like silver with an engraving of the sun on it, and then he showed the other side which was completely black with a crescent moon engraved on that side. Then he flipped it. “We’re here,” he said as he caught the coin and put it away.
We stared at him in silence for a few minutes before Chris said flatly, “We’re in the same damn room. Are you as stupid as you are insane?”
“I’m starting to wonder that, too,” Aqua followed as Terra, Ruby, and Eric nodded in agreement.
Kane took hold of the sword on his back.
I took a moment to look at the library. Nothing’s changed, so how is it different? Then my gaze fell to the floor behind Kane. That’s it! “Guys,” I said slowly. “Where’re the pieces of the statue that are supposed to be on the floor?”
“Alexander,” Ruby sighed. “They’re right over…,” she stopped for second as she pointed at the empty floor. “…There?”
“Well, at least someone uses their brain every now and again,” Kane said coolly as he stepped to the side.
“What the heck,” Terra said under her breath.
“But that’s the statue that you…,” Aqua followed in awe.
“It’s a little different, isn’t it,” Eric gawked.
“Yeah,” I whispered as my eyes were drawn to a dark statue with the wings of a bat in the same pose as the statue that Kane smashed a second ago.
