I wonder just how often I'm going to have to do this?

Derek was admitted to the hospital last night, at around 4:00. I wasn't there, I was taking a night class. When I got home, all the lights were on, and the neighbor told me that Derek's in the ICU.

Apparently, he's on a family-only restriction. They wouldn't let me in, I must have spent all night arguing with the idiotic lady at the front ******** homophobe. I tried to explain that I AM his family, but she refused...She wouldn't even tell me what's going on with him. "I'm sorry, sir, but it's the protocol here..." And then she watched me constantly, so it's not like I could even have snuck into his room. She's a b***h. >>;;

I'm still at the hospital, scared sick. I don't think I could have even gotten any sleep even if I wanted to. I remembered that he told me to keep you guys updated if he couldn't, so that's what I'm doing...

Edited as of 10:00 PM: I got in touch with Derek's family, since I'm still not being let in. >.o They say that he's infected with pneumonia and apparently his immune system is starting to break down. Hell, I started to break down when I heard that. They say he's asking for me, and the daytime front-desk-lady is no less bitchier than the night-shift. Dx

Thanks for your comments, guys, it's actually making me feel better about the whole situation. If/when I do get a chance to see Derek, I'll tell him.

I was talking with Derek's dad just now, trying to get as much information as I can. Derek has pneumocystis pneumonia, which occurs most often in people with immunodeficiency diseases, like AIDS. They don't know how long he'll be in the ICU, but his dad says that he "has a hunch that he'll be off the family-only thing soon." I have no idea if he just said that to reassure me.

His fever was a 106 when they brought him in, and it's 104 now, so it's going down...They say he's short of breath and keeps coughing. He sleeps a lot too.

@spndx: I wish. The staff there already know I'm not related to him, and they keep an eye on me in the waiting room. D:
