My Valentine By Rose and Zack (a short story) Part 1
His heart beat like drums inside his chest, racing down the long path of the narrow road. The foggy mist blinded his sight, unaware of where he was running to. The morning air was thick inside his lungs, his pace steady, and his site clear in the back of his mind.
Valentine felt the drops of salty sweat run slowly down the side of his forehead, something that usually happened during his running down the same old road that people used rarely. However Valentine considered that to be a blessing for his runs early in the morning.
The young man came to a halt at his front door step, breathing heavily, his chest rising and falling along side every breath. His dark brown hair looked black with the sweat and damp weather over and around him.
"Val you're going to be late for work again!" Valentines mother called from inside the house, knowing very well it was him by his heavy breathing in front of the door. His mother was a short woman who was amazing in Valentine's eyes. She had raised him all on her own and was in the middle of raising another child, a small baby girl by the name of Charity.
Quickly Val rushed upstairs to his room and took a shower, hastening himself to get to work. He was still half naked when he reached down the street, slipping on his shirt while running. His key's chimed as he ran into town again out of breath but he made it.
The shop had already been open by the owner he worked for. The town was small so everyone knew another, that's how Valentine got his job. His mother convinced Mack, a long time friend, to hire Valentine for a few weeks free to see how he was and if he desired to keep him around and actually pay him.
Once Valentine threw on his red apron, two school girls that attending his small academy strolled on in giggling and whispering in each other's ears. They were his regulars on a Saterday.
